This is a non-juried show open to all NEMS members whose 2025 membership dues have been paid.
We are so excited to announce the return of our Collaborative Project, but this year we are doing things a little differently! Now you will be registering and uploading your images using our digital platform, ArtCall.org. The other big change is that instead of being under the purview of the Programs/Education Committee and having a Zoom only presentation, the Exhibiton Committee will be handling the entires and is currently searching for a venue to exhibit the work during the Spring/Summer of 2025.
Each member can choose thier own partner or asked to be paried up with another member. (Both you and your partner's work is guaranteed to be included in the in person exhibition. There will be no jury.)
You should have recieved a Sign-Up Genius email asking you to register for this exibition and state who you would like to be partnered with. If you need to be assigned a partner, The Exhibition Committee will be pairing you with another member and send you an email with your partner's name and contact information.
What is the Collaborative Project?
You will work with another mosaic artist of your choosing to create two original mosaics. Each artist starts a piece and completes one half of a mosaic. Then you send your half-finished mosaic to your partner who will finish the mosaic you started. So each artist has the experience of starting a mosaic and finishing a mosaic started by a partner. The challenge for the second artist is to decide whether to compliment or contrast the style of the first mosaicist. This is an interesting way to work as it disrupts your usual flow.
The 2 finished mosaics will be hung next to each other in the exhibition along with a printed image of the half finished mosiac hanging beside each piece.

We highly encourage you to attend the Zoom presentation on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025 at 7:00pm EST. The Exhibition Committee will be explaining the collaborative process, sharing the project timeline and talking about how to use the ArtCall.org website. We will also be talking about the best way to take your photos and how to submit them through the digital submission form on the ArtCall.org website.
(If you have never used the ArtCall.org platform, it is very important to attend the Zoom presentation!)
Here is an example of one mosaic that was created by two artists partners in 2024; Cathleen Newsham started the mosaic on the left, then mailed the 1/2 finsihed piece to Carrie Fradkin, who completed the mosaic as seen on the right. (They discussed the project before starting and decided that they would mail a small amount of tiles with the 1/2 completed works so the 2nd artist could blend the tessare into the 2nd half.)

Only 2-D work can be submitted for this exhibition
Size restrictions for each piece: All work must be 11"x 14" or smaller and must be wired and ready to hang
